The Left Behind series continues with Deshong's Chester: Left Behind.
Left Behind questions what happens to the people who get left behind? This performance is inspired in part, by the question of "what happened to the Chester in which Alfred O. Deshong lived?" The Chester of the past seemed full of life and energy - as is the Chester of the present as I learned through Widener and the Boundaries and Bridges project, although in a very different way. I've been investigating more of the history of Chester and the tradition from Deshong's time to the present.
Through these investigations, I've discovered the resilience of individuals and communities; I've been impressed with the enthusiasm for re-building Chester through the arts.
This FREE performance will feature community members from Chester who participated in the Dance and Creative Placemaking Workshop Jessica led in June 2016 as well as dancers from The Embodiment Project.
Location: Widener University Art Gallery (Located in the University Center on 14th St. between Walnut and Melrose, Chester, PA).
